Tied up

On May 15, Tyrone and I participated in the Ike 9 College Prep Higher Learning Field Trip and Life Skills Workshop at Eisenhower Ninth Grade School (Ike 9). The purpose of the workshop was to introduce students to essential skills and opportunities critical to their growth and development into productive adults. A few weeks prior when Tyrone and I provided the schoolteachers and administrators with breakfast, we shared our hearts about Batho Pele Resource Center and our desire to empower Great Commission communities. The two organizers of the Life Skills Workshop asked if we would purchase ties for the campus outreach. Tyrone and I promised to resource the students with ties, but asked if we could also teach a session about life.  The organizers were excited about our suggestion and assigned us two time slots.  The “Becoming Whole” seminar led by Tyrone helped students explore the value of becoming a complete person that is strong mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Dr. Mack Joyner contacted me earlier in the week to see if he could participate in any outreach at Worthing High School. Because we had completed our ministry for the school year at Worthing, I asked if he would join us at Eisenhower Ninth Grade School. Dr. Joyner affirmed he would attend.  The three of us arrived with 40 tie sets for this workshop. The ties we provided for the “Professionalism” seminar, and we then went to lead our “Becoming Whole” sessions. A highlight was having the opportunity to break the students up into 3 groups. Tyrone, Dr. Joyner, and I utilized the Soularium evangelism tool with the Ike 9 students. I listened to their responses and desires to be in relationships with other people and to establish families in the future. I pray the 40+ students that participated in the “Becoming Whole” sessions heard the gospel and will tie their hearts closer to God through their experience with us.
