Around this time of the year, our ministry starts to wind down. Universities begin testing and our team looks forward to evaluating the current year and planning the new year. However, this year, we continue to do things differently.
Recently, our family hosted a ministry planning evening with volunteers from Khayelitsha. While simultaneously welcoming two American families who are serving South Africa through fellowships.
Prior to planning/welcoming dinner, Leon toured the Kuyasa Library in Khayelitsha. His ears and eyes were amazed by the opportunities presented. When I asked, how we can best serve the community library. Her response shocked me, and I responded, “You want us to facilitate a Christian program for youth weekly? WE CAN DO THAT!” In seven days, Akhona, Sonwabile, Keli and Leon kicked off the first Life in Christ series with over 50 learners. While Leon was away for National meeting, the core leaders carried on. This time our new friends from the states, Ben and Rebecca; John and Ivana, came to lend a hand. It continues to grow each week.
Leon continues to disciple young men in different ways. At the weekly Christian youth meetings, he encouraged them to lead, make decisions and prepare for the meetings. Akhona shared a message, Keli prepared snacks and Sonwonbile led fun activities and games. His heart is to help them trust God for more than what they can see and be confident in the ways God has gifted them to serve the body.
